We
will feature some of our pups that are being raised with foster
families. Our females are placed with Top Knotch Families when they are pups. She lives with the family and is co-owned until she is finished having babies. When she is ready to be bred, she has a "date" with one of our studs and we take over all aspects of care of the Dam and the family fosters the pups. The pups are ours and sometimes the family is financially compensated, depending on our agreement. We whelp the pups, give them their vaccines, bring them to our vet and bring them to the farm when they are ready to join new families. Foster families must meet specific criteria. We feature some of our families on this page |
| People sometimes question why we don't let
"nature take it's course". When nature takes its course, pups and
their mothers sometimes die. Animals have many more babies than humans because they don't raise them. Pups die and sometimes the mom dies too. It's amazing to observe a dam give birth and see how her instincts take over. But many times it does not "click" in right away. Often times a dam will simply observe a still baby lying in a sack. It is not uncommon for a first time mom to simply look at the sack and ignore it. She has no idea what it is. When we break the sack and get the baby moving she begins to care for it. Babies are easily chilled and often times the dam does not keep it warm while she is giving birth to the others. "Nature" is a wonderful thing but since we have taken these animals and socialized them, we owe them something better than simply what nature has to offer |
