| These are the most
frequently asked questions prior to your visit: |
| Questions are a good thing. For practical reasons and so I don't misinform
anyone or not answer a question properly, I ask that everyone read this
page
thoroughly prior to coming to choose your pup. And read puppy info on the Puppy Info page. |
| QUESTION:
What are your hours? - What time are you
opened til? ANSWER: We don't actually have hours. Our pups are shown by appointment only and we are willing and able to make an appointment time to suit you. Someone is with our pups 24-7 and we are available to make appointments daily from 11 a.m. until late in the evening. |
| QUESTION:
Can you please phone me so we can discuss personalities of
the various pups? ANSWER: Unless a pup is alpha dog or painfully shy or a barker, there isn't really anything to discuss. Those are the pups that are noticed. Just like when you are at a restaurant and everyone in the restaurant knows the name of a specific child because we hear the parent's correcting the child every 2 minutes. They are in a specific pack here so they act accordingly. When they leave us and go to your home, they are then in a different pack and that is when you have the opportunity to help form their personality. While you are here for your appointment we are happy to discuss various pups with you but it is not something that can be done on the phone. |
| QUESTION:
We are planning to get a new puppy in 4 months but we
would like to meet you, check out your facility and look at some puppies
now? ANSWER: We don't have meet and greets. We have put a good deal of effort and time into our site so that you can learn about us prior to coming. There are two reasons we don't make double or triple appointments. We simply do not have the time. Taking care of the pups takes up the majority of our day. Also, having the pups exposed to humans unnecessarily makes them more vulnerable to contagious disease and sometimes, unnecessarily stresses them. |
| QUESTION:
What guarantee do you provide? ANSWER: We follow the New Jersey Pet Protection Act. Our guarantee covers the puppy for contagious disease for two weeks from date of purchase and for 6 months from the date of purchase your puppy is guaranteed against major genetic defects that are life threatening or crippling. Each client receives an original signed document. |
| QUESTION:
If I am allergic to the pup may I
bring it back? ANSWER: No. We make every effort to help you make that determination prior to your taking home a pup. We suggest you spend time with a dog that is the same breed or mix that you intend to buy. It is best to visit the dog in his home so that you will have the full impact of what your house will "feel" like in terms of the house having had a dog live in it. That is much better than visiting with a pup for 10 minutes. In addition we will have you come and stay in your car and we will bring a pup you have seen on the site to your car. You sit in the car with windows closed for 15 minutes or more. It is heartbreaking to have to give up a pup that you have brought into your home so please make sure prior to the purchase. |
| QUESTION: If the dog we have does not get
along with the new pup may we return the pup? ANSWER: No. That hardly ever happens and if it does it is usually because the humans are interpreting things incorrectly. Once a pup leaves our care we cannot take him back because we must then keep him for two more weeks, vet check him again and begin the sale process again. |
| QUESTION:
May I bring my adult dog so that we
can see if they get along? ANSWER: No. We can't have adult dogs visit. Your dog will not be able to help you choose your new puppy any more than you would take your children to the hospital nursery and allow them to choose a baby. Your children accept the baby you bring home and so will your dog and/or cat. Adult dogs carry viruses and germs that may not affect them but that can make a young pup very sick. |
| QUESTION:
May I bring my children? ANSWER: You may bring your children. Should you bring your children? You know your children. It is usually better to simply take home a pup and they will love it. Most times children disagree on the pup they want and they ALWAYS choose the most expensive pup (the littlest) and at least one child ends up crying. I am told more often than not after the family is here, they wished they had left the children home. If your children are well behaved and able to follow our rules, bring them. If you will be able to make the decision with them here, by all means bring them. Please don't bring "extras" however. Nieces, nephews and neighborhood children are not appreciated. So many people bring children along that are not theirs. Children, especially "extras" ask a lot of questions. I suppose because they have not read the FAQ's! Choosing a new pup is an important issue for your family and a lot of work for me. I realize going to a place with all these cute little pups is very exciting. And it is. The cuteness factor in our puppy room could give you diabetes, but we are dealing with living creatures that can be very delicate. The fewer people we expose them to, the better. The fewer people asking questions, the better. We don't have a lot of room and less is best. Once you decide on a pup it then takes us about an hour to get you and the pup out the door. The pup is groomed and lots of paperwork must be done. Please don't think we don't enjoy your company because we do. We have made many wonderful friends through this business and seeing how much our pups mean to their families is heart warming, but we are trying to keep the chaos down to a minimum. |
| QUESTION:
May I bring my mother-in-law,
father-in-law, best friend? ANSWER: We prefer no more than 2 adults. |
| QUESTION:
Has the puppy received any shots?
ANWER: Of course. Our pups begin de-worming at 3 weeks and puppy vaccines at 5 weeks and receive them until they leave here in increments of three weeks. They also are treated for fleas and heartworms at the appropriate age with Revolution. You will receive a health record to take to your vet with future treatment dates clearly marked. |
| QUESTION:
If I choose a puppy, may I leave with it the same day as my appointment? ANSWER: As a rule, the pups on our site are ready to join new families unless otherwise stated. Most people leave with their puppy. Plan to spend at least an hour after you choose the pup. It takes us that long to do paperwork, groom the pup and get your new pup ready to leave. |
| QUESTION: What should we bring when coming to pick
up the puppy? ANSWER: Bring a blanket. Bring a towel or paper towels. Some pups become carsick the first few times in a car, so be prepared. |
| QUESTION:
Are your prices firm? ANSWER: Yes they are. Please don't ask for a discount. The price on the site is the final price. |

| QUESTION:
Why does that dog only have 3 legs? ANSWER: Our Morkie Gia is missing her right front leg. When she was 10 weeks old she began to hold up her leg. Our vet discovered she had a dislocated shoulder. She was placed under anesthesia to put it back into place but we learned it did not fit due to the fact it was probably a birth injury and no longer fit into the socket. Her leg was amputated at the shoulder when she was 7 months old. She is absolutely fine and is able to do everything she needs to do. Even have babies. We were not going to breed her due to the fact I felt the extra weight would be bad for her remaining front leg. She had a "date" without my knowledge and we did not discover her pregnancy until she was very far along. She and 4 of our Yorkies were all due the same week. Gia was the only one able to jump up on the sofa with her big fat belly. She is a very athletic little girl. Her babies are wonderful and she raises them without help. In fact she helps the others raise theirs. We call her Auntie Gia because she is always hopping in a bed to take care of babies when their Mama leaves them for a few minutes. I have never loved a dog the way I love Gia. She is my absolute favorite. |
| QUESTION:
What is that? (pointing to a plastic container with

| QUESTION:
Do the puppies receive any form of
potty training before they leave?? ANSWER: No, that job is all yours!! Our pups seem to do better than the average pup because we send the family home with some wood chips that the pups have been "going" on with directions to sprinkle on the ground on the spot you want them to use. It works very well. We do offer litter box training. The cost is $300.00 People come to choose their pup then leave it here for an additional week. I am also hapy to show you our system and explain it to you in full and many people are successful doing it themselves. |

Havanese) bark? ANSWER: Yes they do and if you don't want a dog to bark there is a barkless breed but it is butt ugly and mean or you can get a stuffed animal as I am sure they don't bark. They also don't kiss and lick your face. |

Excuse me, do you mind telling me
again how big this puppy will be? I was holding him

| QUESTION:
Should I let my female dog have one period before having her spayed? ANSWER: A dog does not have a "period". The proper term is she goes into heat. If a dog is spayed before her first heat, she is about 99% protected against mammary tumors. If you wait until her second heat, that drops down to about 67%. Usually by the time she's had her fourth heat, there is no longer protection against mammary tumors, but you still want to prevent pyometras (uterine infections) which are surgical emergencies (and very expensive) and we also want to prevent unwanted pregnancies. |
| QUESTION:
How big will this puppy be? As
you hold up puppy #6. ANSWER: I don't know. |
| QUESTION:
If the dog we have at home does not
get along with this pup, can we bring it back? ANSWER: No. We cannot take puppies back. On the very rare occasion we do, we charge a $200.00 fee but that is very rare. When we take a pup back we must quarantine it for 2 weeks and then re-sell the pup. It is twice as much work for us. BTW - it is extremely rare for your grown dog not to take to the new pup. |
| QUESTION:
How big will this puppy be? As
you hold up puppy #7. ANSWER: I don't know. |
| QUESTION:
Should I allow
my male dog to become sexually active before having him neutered?
Men often ask this question and feel the "poor guy should have the experience just once before he is neutered". ANSWER: NOT!!!! Neuter a male as soon as permitted by your vet. The sooner you have him neutered the less likely he will lift his leg and "mark" and his chances of having testicular cancer will be greatly reduced and the number 1 dog to get hit by a car is an intact male looking for a girlfriend. There are differences of opinion between vets as to the proper age to have a male neutered. My belief is that it should be at 16 weeks. Shelters do pediatric spays and neuters and there has been no proof that early sterilization negatively affects the dog. Lifting his leg to pee and lifting his leg to mark is not the same. Your male dog may or may not lift his leg to pee if he is neutered but if you allow him to become an unaltered adult, he WILL lift his leg to mark. |

| And the $64,000.00
Question???? How big will this puppy be???? ANSWER: I really don't know. It is not true that if the Dam is 7 lbs and the Sire is 5 lbs the pup will be 6 lbs. I tell this story to every client. I have 3 sons and my husband is 5' 8'' tall. One of our sons is 5'8'' and two of our sons are 6'2''. We have no idea where the tall ones come from. No one is our family is tall on either side. We have a very short family but someone in the woodpile is a tall person. Small dogs can throw big pups. A pup can be very small and then have a growth spurt. I just had to sell a pup that I was keeping for breeding. She was the biggest in the litter but at 5 months she is 2 lbs 6 oz. so I had to sell her. I estimated incorrectly. There is a schedule that breeders use which says they triple the 8 week weight and double the 12 week weight. I do not find it to be accurate. I think tripling the 12 week weight might be more accurate or at least you won't be disappointed. If you truly must know the projected adult weight of your pup, you must buy an adult dog. I do my best to help with a "guesstimate" but it is truly just an educated guess. |
